We use various helpers like this around the style. Other properties are relying on this to determine specific values. In this case, we're contrasting the text based off of the background.
Instead of removing it, I'd set it to @xf-contentBg to match your other content, or set it to: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) (transparent).
