I downloaded the zipfile, there is no xml folder, I uploaded and overwrite the current style with the style xml and it reverted everything back to fresh install. I had a backup luckily. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have a child style with all of your edits in them?

Instead of extracting the zip, import the entire zip inside the admin panel (appearance ->styles -> import.

You'll import and overwrite your existing parent Bolt style.

I'll update the instructions(extracting would technically still work)
