I had the old Bolt template installed, from February. The child theme was activated and I made changes to it.

Today, before the update, I completely removed both versions of Bolt to update to 2.3. Xenforo was also updated to the latest version 2.3. According to the instructions, I first installed the parent Bolt 2.3, then the child Bolt Dark 2.2 (for some reason I didn't find 2.3) and saw that the child style greatly changes the theme, removes the mode switch, the text in the nodes is not visible, and so on ... As if the child theme is not compatible. Tell me, what am I doing wrong?

Now that I saw for the parent 2.3, you need to download the child one that is not dark. I downloaded child v2, but after installing it, the mode switch is still missing. In child style provision I set dark mode but nothing happened. Only the parent style works correctly. Tell me, maybe I haven't activated something? Is it necessary to include the parent style?

With 2.3, the recommended approach is to run a single style and use style variations, which is included in 2.3. You need to activate the style variations by clicking the style name on that screen.

This approach would run the light and the dark, and your users can just choose which they want to use (or let the system detect it).

In that case, I don't need to use a child theme? If I make any changes to the style, do I just need to re-make those changes when updating? Are the font, color, and other settings that are provided in the style settings saved after updating?

I may be confused. For the record, you ALWAYS need a child style. It can function just like your screenshot. You no longer need the:
Parent style - > Light style -> Dark style.

Now the light/dark are bundled into a single style. If you want me to take a closer look at things, feel free to submit a ticket (don't post here as it's public).
