My experience has taught me that keeping multiple styles maintained is more hassle for me than letting users have options, so I only use one style: Core Dark.

I'm not a fan of the new approach to style variations and will sorely miss having only Core Dark installed.

Is there a way to disable the Style Variation slider?

Two things, right now I'm recommending Kirby's plugin: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/style-variation-default.9504/ which allows you to set the default to light/dark.

I think I may end up releasing the dark styles as just child styles again, though. It'll be too hard to maintain Core Dark as the parent, but I can do them as child styles. I've been on a short vacation but I should be able to get the child styles out early this week.

I realized I should have mentioned, the child styles on the download screen will still work:

If you import that as a child style of the main Core style. then just disable variations and set the only active style to Core dark, that should achieve what you're after.

Follow-up question:

If I decide to stick with the new version of Core and create my own Child style from it, how do I make the Dark version the only one available after disabling variations?

I've tested that as a possible solution for my board and the Light version keeps trumping the Dark version.

This is a Core Dark child version for 2.3 with the correct node titles.

To make dark the only one available, you can import this Core-Dark (Child) xml as a child of the main Core style and place your edits directly into it. This would be the only active style.

It'd look like this:

Let me know if that answers the question.
