Rich user names everywhere

I know there are a few add-ons that can do this but I'm wondering if it can be done without those.

@Russ, do you have a way to make all user names rich, regardless of where they are displayed? Or would this be too much to change for just editing templates?

Way too much work for template edits. No simple fix to change it anywhere without an add-on.

We use this one here; it covers most areas.
