Some issues with Bolt after XF upgrade to 2.3

Hello, and thank you for a great theme. We have been happily running Bolt since we opened nearly two years ago.

Yesterday, however, we upgraded XF from 2.2.something to 2.3.4, and as expected, we had to fix a lot of things.

We have figured out most of it, but there are still some issues that we are really struggling to fix. These are issues that we experience while running Bolt, but not with the default theme, so I suspect that the fix lies within the theme. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I hope you will be able to guide me towards a solution!

1. FA issues
There are these weird little boxes before most of the icons on the site. See pictures:

Here's the code for the emoji button in the editor, and the little box is generated in the ::before thing.

I can't for the life of me seem to be able to understand where this is actually set – and how to fix it.


2. Pop-ups and double postings
This thread explains it better than I ever could – and with a GIF. We have this exact problem. When adding a reply, we're greeted with a popup that doesn't make it obvious that anything has been posted, and most users end up double (or triple) posting. Also, the text input field doesn't clear after posting.
We have tried disabling all add-ons, but this problem persists – only in Bolt, not in the default theme.
I am simply out of ideas as to where to look. We have made edits to the thread_view template, but I can't see quite what the problem could be. Of course, I don't expect you to guess what's wrong with our modifications, but seeing as others have this problem as well, we thought that perhaps you (or someone else who might see this) would know what to do or where to look.



Additional info:
We have downloaded and upgraded the Bolt parent v2.3.4, but while we try to learn how to use the new system with variations (and not running the parent), we are running the child themes Light and Dark (not the parent). If I understand correctly, these child themes have not been updated just because we updated the parent ... right? So we're still running the good old Light child...?

That's a bit of a mess, I'm sorry! That many icons almost leads to some sort of outdated template on your custom style. If you want, I can take a closer look on the forum and fix it. Outside of this, I'm sort of guessing as to what could be the problem.

Regarding variations: Your current approach is no longer really supported. I no longer ship the dark version on its own. You can however use the Bolt Dark child style as a child to your customized version if you do not want to use variations. If you want to use variations, you'll actually ditch the dark style completely after moving your edits over to the main style.
