I know 2.3 isn't released yet, but I was curious about upgrading my PixelExit style when the time comes. Colors are formatted differently and there is a light/dark switch built into 2.3. Will upgrading the style be able to convert our 2.2 styles, or will we be starting from scratch with colors (and potentially settings)?

Just trying to get an idea what to expect and plan for. :)

Solution
You'll be able to upgrade them fairly easily while keeping your custom changes (with some exceptions)
(Using our Core style as an example)

In an ideal world, your styles are setup currently something like this:

  • Core (Parent DO NOT EDIT)
    • Community Light Style
      • Community Dark Style

All of your main edits should already be inside of the Light Style, and maybe a few tweaks in the dark style.

When you upgrade to 2.3, you'll import the new 2.3 version of Core and update any outdated templates. After this is done, you need to enable style variations and you can begin making any dark color adjustments (maybe port over any of the tweaks you have on the dark style). With 2.3, the light/dark color palette and...

With 2.3, the light/dark color palette and basic colors are all in one style which you'll adjust on "Community Light Style". You'll then remove the "Community Dark Style" as it is no longer needed.

Afterwards, your setup will look like this:

  • Core (Parent DO NOT EDIT)
    • Community Style

Some things you may need to focus on post-upgrade:
  • If you've set custom Font Awesome icons anywhere, they may need a slight code tweak
  • If you've hard-coded colors on a property, it might need tweaking to work with the dark style
  • You may need to redefine images again for the dark variation
I'll provide instructions for all this. Hoping Beta 8 we can actually fully export/import styles :).

Solution
Russ, is there a way to download a style yet for 2.3? I'm working with RC2, preparing an upgrade from a much older version and editing my custom addons. No big deal if not, but didn't know if I was missing anything or not in my license download area. I suspect changes aren't that major but I did notice an issue when replying to a thread in 2.3.

Soon enough, if you want to submit a ticket though I'm offering folks a version of it now (smaller group of testing)

Hi Russ,

Looks like 2.3 is now in stable release. Do we wait for you to release an update or are the current style updates good to go?

Thanks,
Art

For any active license holders, our 2.3 RC4 styles work perfectly fine on 2.3 stable with no outdated templates. You're good to go! I've adjusted a few minor bugs(very, very minor) and will release this coming week potentially, but no reason to wait for that as the 2.3 RC4 versions work great.
