We have a user panel built in which you can get a similar look: Style Properties -> User Panel

it messes up as i wish to keep it where mine is already ?

I'm assuming the social icons may be messing it up. The screenshot you showed from 2.0 is the user tabs in the logo block area which is what the user panel will do. What are you trying to do just have a background color around the visitor tabs in the default location?

You can just add a background color to: Style Properties -> [XB] Header and Navigation -> Visitor Tabs
