1.5.13 Style Updates

Hello everyone, we're pushing our 1.5.13 updates out today. Once you receive the email you'll be able to download it immediately with an active license via your licenses area.

This is a rather large XenBase focusing primarily on the back end organization, bug fixes and just a general clean up. We aim to keep each release as easy as possible to upgrade but with this version we definitely pushed to clean things. You must upgrade your forum to at least 1.5.13 to install this update.

BEFORE UPGRADING:
As always backup your current styles before importing the new version. Export your current:
  • XenBase
  • Parent Style (this would be the purchased style such as Core, Flat Awesome + ect)
  • Your child style with your edits
To upgrade the style check out our guide here: https://pixelexit.com/resources/general-style-upgrading.15/

COMMON PROBLEMS AND TROUBLESHOOTING:
  • If your forum list looks a little off: You may need to revert the following properties:
    • Style Properties -> Forum / Node list -> Node Last Post
    • Style Properties -> Forum / Node List -> Node Text Block
    • Style Properties -> Node Icons -> Node Icon
If you have other problems please don't hesitate to start a support ticket or post in our customer support forum.

CHANGES:

  • ADDED xb_offcanvas_controls template to house the default menu + recent posts link. You can easily add custom links here without having to edit the navigation template

  • ADDED Register Link property, you can easily style the color of the register link when logged out ( Style Properties -> Login Bar)

  • ADDED Logo Max Height property ( Style Properties -> Header and Navigation )

  • ADDED Panel Links styling to target links inside notices (Style Properties -> Notices -> Panel Links

  • ADDED Welcome Bar Fade-in and out option (can make it so it just always stays active to logged out users)

  • ADDED Prefix Primary & Secondary styling (Style Properties -> General -> Left Column at the bottom)

  • ADDED New default avatars, use transparent background which inherits from Style Properties -> General -> Avatars

  • FIXED Login bar spacing is now hidden when default handle is removed

  • FIXED Style Properties -> Forum / Node List -> Node Titles wouldn't let you set the color here by default in XenForo, we've made a slight change so you can easily change the color

  • FIXED Collapsed Sidebar FA-Icon had a bad html class

  • FIXED Horizontal Message quotes/codes/attachments margin-right

  • FIXED Node Customization Sub-Headings will now inherit their respecting colors set in the Node Heading Colors

  • FIXED Editor Image icons using RTL

  • FIXED Can no longer use user panel if the logo is set inside the navigation (would just not show previously)

  • FIXED Various aspects of the User Panel:
    • Automatically adjusts the logo block
    • Minimized properties, you can now control it via a single property, the links will inherit the hover/open effect of the normal menus for easy styling
    • Avatar automatically adjusts to the height of the panel.

  • FIXED threadStarter conditional showing in convos as well

  • FIXED Bug where our user banner option to show in member card + member list, the div was always showing with extra spacing even with users who have no banners.

  • CHANGED Social Links RSS will now automatically link to your forums main RSS if enabled.

  • CHANGED All custom JS to the body template

  • CHANGED Off-Canvas navigation will now by default slide over the content, rather than pushing the content to the right.

  • CHANGED Sub-Forum icons can now be set in the same manner as the regular font awesome node icons (Style Properties -> Node Icons)

  • CHANGED If you disable the sub-navigation it will now disable the quick search if in position 0 or 1. Essentially the search would cover up the navigation with no sub-nav requiring far more work than to just switch to another position.

  • CHANGED The way we approach Node Stat FA Icons, previously it was either FA Icon or Text only, now by enabling the Node Stat Icon it will show next to the text. You can hide the text if you want by adding some simple CSS to your EXTRA.CSS:
    Code:
    .xbNodeStatsText { display: none; }

  • CHANGED: Styling on the discussion list stats column slightly, now uses the main border color slightly opaque so it doesn't stand out too much.

  • CHANGED [XB] User Panel moved into [XB] Header and Navigation

  • CHANGED Quick Search Icon now serves as a submit link rather than a link to the search page. I believe this would be the expected behavior as an end user.

  • REMOVED: Collapse Sidebar Content was an old property not used

  • REMOVED Font Awesome Node Icon Size

  • REMOVED Category Footer go to top

  • REMOVED "xb_node_mark_read_phrase", now using the default XenForo phrase for marking a forum as read (mark_forums_read).

  • REMOVED Welcome Block CSS (xb_welcomeblock_css) - Was apparently never used

  • REMOVED Scroll Button Containers (xb_scroll_buttons_contianer)

  • REMOVED Body Helper CSS + option to enable, it's in the HTML by default now which you can use extra.css to style it
    Code:
    .xbBodyhelper {CSS}

  • REMOVED: Node Stats (xb_stats_dl)

  • REMOVED: Node Stats Count (xb_stats_dd)

  • REMOVED: Node Alt 1 Background (xb_node_alt1) & Node Alt 2 Background (xb_node_alt2)

  • REMOVED: Node Alt 1 Hover (xb_alt1_hover) & Node Alt 2 Hover (xb_alt2_hover)

  • REMOVED: Discussion List Alt 1 BG (xb_discussionList_alt1) & Discussion List Alt 2 BG (xb_discussionList_alt2)

  • REMOVED: Stats <dl> (xb_discussionList_stats_dl)

So @Russ , it seems like this Core 1.5.13 created lots of different Things With my custom theme. Do you want one bug for each of them?
What theme is yours based on? I was hesitating because I just got my vB forum converted to XF and it's got me all wore out. Now an update, so I thought I'd wait to see if anyone using Core had a problem.

Oh yeah, I know that already. Top notch guys.
Jim I'm away from my computer at the moment but you may already be on a close version of 1.5.13. If your XenBase has the letters TNG in the style name then yes you are on a closely finished 1.5.13. Upgrading would be really for you, just backup your styles before doing anything.

Russ, there's this file: style-XenBase-TNG-CLIENTS-(Parent-DO-NOT-EDIT).xml. That what you mean? And by, "Upgrading would be really for you" do you mean really FOR me or are you missing a word like "easy"?
@Jim McClain from the screen shot in the other thread you did some good work on your style.
That's all Russ. Well almost all. I did a few minor style changes like backgrounds, color changes, a few template and CSS changes. I asked Russ to see if he could match my existing WordPress style a couple of years ago, when I was seriously considering converting my vB forum to XF. But then I waffled and was just about to decide between WBB and IPS because they were complete suites. Then I came to the realization that no other CMS comes even close to the power and SEO of WordPress. What I really needed was a forum script that could partner with that. It's my opinion that there was nothing better on the market than XF.

My target audience is not necessarily a tech-savvy segment of society. Those that could provide my site with the best content, in terms of information and education, were older and have grown up in an industry that has been absolutely sluggish in its adoption of internet technology. When I was creating websites in Strict XHTML and 100% valid, the most popular forums for flooring professionals were still using scripts that were not a large step away from USENET style message boards. I take responsibility, if not the credit, for pushing and shoving these pros into more modern platforms, first into a IPB based forum, then into a vB forum. There were actually a couple of forums in my niche before my last attempt, 11 years ago, but not much using modern technology until after my first, failed attempt (the reason it failed was because I can be a real ass sometimes).

My conversion to WP + XF is not the first modern platform for members of my niche, but it is more comprehensive (as opposed to just a forum) and... (and I think this is very important when you are a member of the interior design and service field) ...a more stylish site. There are a few sites (not forums) in my niche that think HUGE, sliding photos of commercial and residential interiors make good landing pages. I don't think so. I offer, through the fine quality skills of people like Russ and a loyal member base, a very stylish site filled with topical and relevant content. And when consumers and DIYers ask questions, they get answers from some of the best my industry has to offer - people who not only crawl on their knees all day, but those who work in manufacturing, sales, cleaning and inspections.

I guess I wear my passion on my sleeve. Still loving this business after 40+ years. :) And I have a knack for taking a good discussion off topic. Sorry.

@Jim McClain yep the TNG was a temporary name for the close-to-final version of 1.5.13. You should be able to download the update... first backup your styles by exporting all of them (do not check the box when the overlay pops up).

Next import and overwrite XenBase, and do the same for Core. Should be set!

Do we need to import the "Splash" style files as well as the Xenbase files? Obviously not over the child, but overweite the "Do not edit" style files and xml?
Cheers

Yep, but of course export your styles first prior to overwriting anything (y).

Including the files to be uploaded to the styles directory, or just import the style.xml?
On this update you can upload the new folders for xenbase + splash but it's optional, it'll replace the default avatars with the new ones shipped out.

@Russ, I was just about to do this update when a question came to me: Is there a system in place that prevents me from editing templates and CSS in the parent or XB styles? I've made a number of edits to templates and CSS (I try to add custom CSS to EXTRA.CSS, but I don't remember if I changed any of the actual CSS templates). Is there a way for me to see, before I do an update, if I edited any templates, like the file name would be bold or a different color or something?

This being a very new XF installation and my experience with XF is also only a couple weeks, I'm worried I'll screw something up - or have already.

Styles > Templates

Will show the complete list of templates. Any showing red means it has been edited in that style. Any showing orange means the template has been edited in the parent style.

Note you will see numerous orange template names since many are edited by us in XenBase.
